DIY Christmas Gnome Bottle Toppers

DIY Christmas Gnome Bottle Toppers

Hello Friends!  I am simply blown away by how fast the year has gone by, and here we are again working on our holiday baking, crafting, and gift-giving.  How did this happen? It seems like just yesterday the kids were heading back to school after the summer break, and now the year is almost over!

A couple of weeks ago I was on the internet searching for holiday inspiration and stumbled across these adorable Christmas bottle toppers that were being sold.  I immediately fell in love with these little guys and I was determined to make them for myself at a fraction of the cost for what they were being sold for!

Christmas Gnomes are very popular in the Scandinavian tradition, they are also known as tomten or nisse.  They are believed to bring you good luck by protecting your family or livestock. I’m hoping if you place one atop of your favorite bottle they will protect it and guarantee you will have a jolly ol time! I think these Gnomes will make a wonderful addition to your holiday decor, or you can give them away as gifts.  To be honest with you, I’m just smitten with these little guys and I hope you will be too.  So, let’s get crafty!

Supplies:

Sheets of felt

Craft fur

White 0.5″ pom poms

Wood round balls 3/8″ up to 1/2″ in size

Card stock

Ruler

Pencil

Paper clips

Scissors

Hot glue gun

How to:

For hats: measure & cut out card stock 7 1/2″ x 7 1/2″ x 9″wide triangle (I slightly rounded the end that measure 9″0)

For beards: measure & cut out card stock 2 1/2″ wide by 3 1/2″ long (round the end as shown in picture)

Attach the hat template to the felt with paper clips and cut out

Trace the beard template to the backside of the craft fur and cut out (I traced some of the beards to be longer than the template to have various lengths)

Fold felt hat almost in half, leaving 1/2″-3/4″ on one side so you can add hot glue. Fold over the 1/2″ side onto itself.  (Be careful, this part can be hot to the touch)

Once the glue is cooled, you can stretch out the hat a bit to give it a more whimsical feel

Hot glue 1 pom pom to the top of the hat

Add hot glue to the top of the beard and attach to the underside of the front of the hat

Finish by adding hot glue to the wooded ball and place just below the brim of the hat on top of the beard

Note:  My Gnomes are very simple in design, however, you can replace the pom pom with mini bells, add white embroidery along the brim of the hat, or anything your heart desires.  Either way, I’m sure they will be adorable!

I hope you enjoy making these fun little guys and I’m sure they will bring much joy to you and your guests!

Happy Holidays!
